This page explains how the site makes money and what we do to keep that from bending the advice.
The short version
HomeWaterCalc participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. When you buy something through a link here, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
What that does not change
It does not change which product we recommend. Every pick on this site is placed in the tier where its published capability belongs, matched to a real grain capacity, micron rating, certified claim or flow rating rather than to a commission rate.
The clearest evidence of that is how often this site tells people not to buy something. Plenty of households on moderate hardness do not need a softener at all and we say so on the page that would otherwise sell them one. Whole house reverse osmosis is almost always the wrong answer. Ultraviolet on a well that has never tested positive for bacteria is equipment bought for an assumption. Softener salt is nearly always cheaper locally than shipped. None of those positions earn us anything.
Where the links are
Product names, product images and buy buttons are affiliate links. Links to other pages on this site, to our sister sites, and to government or standards bodies are not.
Where a product has no genuine listing available, we use a scoped search link and say so on the page rather than substituting a different product. Several well known brands in this category are sold through dealers rather than online, and we would rather explain that absence than quietly point you at something else.
Prices
Prices shown are pulled from the product data at the time the page was generated and they move constantly. The price on the product page is the one that governs. Totals on the complete system pages are equipment only and exclude plumbing labor, a drain line, electrical work and permits.
What this is not
This disclosure is about how the site earns. It is not the safety guidance, which is a different thing and appears in the closing note on every page: nothing here diagnoses your water or says a product makes it safe to drink, and bacteria, nitrate, lead, arsenic and PFAS need a certified laboratory and usually a licensed professional rather than a purchase.
